Q: What is acupuncture and what conditions can it be effective for?

A: Acupuncture is one of the many services we offer at our two Physiotherapy Partners clinics. The treatment technique can be dated back as far as 1000 BC in traditional Chinese medicine. Today, it is used in our clinics as part of an integrated approach to the management of musculoskeletal symptoms, as well as many pain conditions.

Acupuncture involves fine, single-use needles being inserted at certain points of the body such as on the head, face and body for therapeutic or preventative purposes. All of The Physiotherapy Partners therapists are members of the Acupuncture Association for Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP), some trained to masters level.

The treatment is an effective method to alleviate pain because acupuncture can stimulate nerves under the skin and in muscle tissues. The method is seen to be very useful in breaking the pain cycle when other forms of traditional Western treatments fail to eliminate your pain.

It can be used to treat a wide range of health problems, but access is limited via the NHS. Acupuncture is considered a treatment option for issues such as persistent lower back pain, chronic tension headaches, migraines, chronic neck pain, joint pain and dental pain.

If you would like more details on the acupuncture procedure please contact your local Physiotherapy Partners clinics. You can also get more information on the services we offer here.
